Healthcare Content Strategy for Regulated Skincare Brands

Timeline

The Situation
Mederma's website covers three product categories: scar care, stretch marks, and cold sore treatment. Each has distinct compliance requirements and target audiences.
Their digital team was rewriting product pages to make them understandable for consumers while staying within healthcare compliance guidelines. The content needed to:
-
Explain the science without sounding like marketing
-
Stay consistent across regions and product lines
-
Move faster through compliance reviews
We were brought in to help speed up the process and make the content more accessible without compromising accuracy.
The Collaboration
Early drafts came back with compliance notes on claims such as “clinically proven” and “visible results.” Instead of fixing each piece separately, we built a living glossary that everyone could reference.
By month three, review cycles for final deliverables averaged four days, compared to initial submissions that took two weeks, primarily because teams were aligned on terminology from the start.
Three FAQ pages (covering scar treatment duration, stretch mark prevention, and cold sore stages) ranked in Google’s top three results for their primary keywords within six weeks of publication (as of January 2025).
The FAQ library took four review rounds to finalize. Through that process, we developed a structure (short question, brief answer, expandable detail) that worked for both legal reviewers and everyday readers.
We managed everything through Google Docs, Notion, and Trello, tagging reviewers by round. Before handoff, we checked SEO readiness using Semrush and Ahrefs.

What This Demonstrates
We've worked with other regulated brands since, but Mederma taught us the most important part: alignment beats perfection. Get medical and marketing on the same page early, and reviews stop being the bottleneck.
Following this project, DFYN continued to support Mederma’s content operations and later partnered with Himalaya Wellness and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories on healthcare content and patient-education projects.
“Mederma's team noted that DFYN's structured approach helped accelerate their approval process while maintaining compliance standards.”
